HS2 train

HS2 - Too good to be true?

27 Jul 2017   |   Ani Radountcheva   |   0 Comments

HS2 will link 8 major cities and benefit millions of people in commuting to work and with general travelling across the UK. The undebatable benefits of HS2 include providing many great job opportunities, across the stages of design, delivery and operation of the new rail way. HS2 has suffered a lot of backlash from people all over the country, especially now as talks of bulldozing housing estates to make way for the tracks have risen. Not only will plenty of people be losing their homes but also people in homes situated near the track could be facing a drop in their home valuation.

Directly affected homeowners will be offered comparable new homes, promised by the Department of Transport. Some of the potential residents that will have to rehome have voiced their views on the issue. One homeowner simply saying:

“ this day and age how someone can just come and take your house away from you, it’s just infuriating.”

Following the recent general election, one key discussion was that the government are promising to build many more homes around the UK, with targets of around 1 million new homes by 2020. Therefore it is no surprise we are seeing a clash between the public and the government over HS2 knocking down properties.

We believe the latest extension to the original route is shortly to be announced, as soon as it is we will update you and amend our search alert system to keep you and your clients safe.
