King of the castle

04 Nov 2015   |   0 Comments

November 5th is Guy Fawkes night (bonfire night). It is the very British tradition of celebrating the House of Parliament remaining intact after a plot to demolish them.

We build a bonfire, throw a dummy on top (a Guy) and while we watch him burn fireworks are lit, representing the explosives that never got used.

In 1606 Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators planned to blow up the Palace of Westminster and assassinate the King but were foiled last minute by an anonymous letter warning to stay away from the House of Lords. Guy was found in the cellars when they were checked at the last minute, arrested and tortured until he gave the names of his accomplices.

In England during the 17th Century traditional death for traitors was to be hanged from the gallows, then drawn and quartered in public but while awaiting his punishment, Fawkes leapt to his death to avoid having his testicles cut off and stomach opened to spill his guts. However when found his body was quartered, and his remains were sent to "the four corners of the kingdom" as a warning to others.

Being the ‘King of the castle’ of our own property we also want the knowledge of anything that could cause any harm to our home.

CDS are that anonymous letter of warning. Our online ordering platform actually checks the post code entered by its clients to recommend which other searches they should be considering, whether it be HS2, Cornwall Tin and Clay mining or the more seasonal searches such as flood, we hand you all the knowledge which in turn provides you with the due diligence (like the guards that checked the cellars at the last moment) to make your clients aware of anything that could affect their home.

We certainly don’t want you to be an effigy on top of someone’s bonfire next year!
