With Trumps’ America recently withdrawing from the Paris climate Agreement it has brought to light many environmental issues. In particular mining, and here in the UK there is a lack of awareness of the potential environmental risks that occur from mining. For a few years now sinkhole activity has been increasing with sinkholes appearing in various places such as roads, railways and even a fair share of horses have been falling down sinkholes in the middle of fields (happy to say all rescued safe and sound). This has seen Mining climb up to one of the top perceived risks in the property and legal sectors.
In the UK:
- There are over 172,000 recorded coal mineshafts
- Over 405,000 recorded non-coal mineshafts
- It is estimated that only 1 in 3 mineshafts are recorded
